Paul Lenormand is a PhD student at Sciences Po Paris, working on 20th century Eastern Europe and Eastern European armed forces (mostly Czechoslovakia) between the 1930's and the 1950's. He was an invited junior researcher at the Centre Français de Recherche en Sciences Sociales in Prague and at Yale University, and a Teaching Fellow at Yale. He is currently an invited researcher at the Institute of History of the Slovak Academy of Sciences with the financial support of the Académie Française, researching archives on postwar Slovak units of the Czechoslovak army.

Focus of research

Eastern European officer corps throughout the 20th century: my casestudy deals with the Czechoslovak officer corps and military from the Bourgeois Republic to the People's Democracy, more specifically the so-called "moral-political instruction".

Current DP project

I aim to look at the 'military units' composed of DPs or 'military recruitment' of DPs in reality and in fiction, on both sides of the Iron Curtain, in the post-war era.
