Rachel Blumenthal

Dr Rachel Blumenthal is a research fellow at the Institute of Contemporary Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. She received her Ph.D. from the Hebrew University in 2018 and has also a Ll.M. from Tel Aviv University and a Ll.B. from the Hebrew University. In 2015-2016, she was a fellow at the Center for History in New York and in 2015 and 2018 she was a JDC Archives Fellow.
Focus of Research
- Post-war refugees and Displaced Persons;
- German reparations for Holocaust surviviors and transnational justice;
- non-profit organizations;
- Israel-diaspora relations.
Current DP projects
- Jewish and non-Jewish DPs in Upper Austria and Salzburg in the second halt of the 1940s;
- relations between UNRRA and refugees;
- contacts between locals and foreigners - military government officials, welfare organizations and refugees;
- Schleichhandel.
